Hi, Melissa,

In PowerPoint 2007, click on the Office button in the top left. In the window that comes up, click the "PowerPoint Options" button. In the window that comes up, then click "Add-Ins".

Is Articulate Presenter listed as an active add-in, pointing to the apmsghrr.dll as a COM Add-in type?

Or is it listed with the inactive application add-ins? Or is it not listed at all in either?

Best.

Hi Melissa,

Not sure if this will work, but it's worth a try.

At the bottom of the PowerPoint Options window, there is a drop-down list titled "Manage" and, by default, the available option is "COM Add-ins". Click this drop-down and select "PowerPoint Add-ins" and then click the Go button.

In the Available Add-Ins window, is there anything listed? If not, click the Add New button. Browse to your Add-ins folder (Documents and Settings > UserName > Application Data > Microsoft > AddIns) and look for the file called "articulate.ppa". Add this file, close all of the windows, and then see if your Add-Ins menu shows up.

Let us know if you have any luck, or if you figure things out.

Thanks, Nancy.
Tried. Nothing is listed in the Add-in window. Then I tried to add the ppa file by browsing to my Add-ins folder(Documents and Settings > UserName > Application Data > Microsoft > AddIns) , but nothing is available in that folder.

At this point, if someone like Justin from Articulate doesn't jump in here, I'd suggest filing a support case with Articulate. ( http://www.articulate.com/support/contact/ )

If it was me and I felt "reckless," I'd probably start with uninstalling AP completely, MAYBE look at the registry, and then reinstalling .NET 1.1 (and the service pack for it), and then reinstall AP, but I'm not sure that would work or not. Still getting up to speed on the Vista and PPT 2007.

Probably best to file a support case.

Hi Melissa,

I second Gerry's suggestion to file a support issue.

The articulate.ppa file is a part of the installation and if you have reinstalled both PPT and AP and still don't have this file anywhere on your computer, then something is awry.

I would suggest trying the following:

In Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, please do the following:

1) Click the Microsoft Office button.
2) Click PowerPoint Options.
3) Click Add-ins.
4) On the Manage menu, click Disabled Items, and then click Go.
5) If anything is in the list, select and enable them.
6) Close the window.
7) Restart PowerPoint.
8) Reproduce the steps that produced the original error.

If you continue to experience this issue, please do the following:

1) Close PowerPoint.
2) Backup any custom Player Templates, Logos, Playlists, or Presenters:
C:\Program Files\Articulate\Presenter\templates
C:\Program Files\Articulate\Presenter\objects
3) Uninstall Articulate Presenter (Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs).
4) Delete this directory:
C:\Program Files\Articulate\Presenter
5) Download and reinstall the latest version that you are using.

If you are still having difficulty in Windows Vista, please do the following:

1) Quit PowerPoint and Engage.
2) Click the Start button.
3) Click All Programs.
4) Click Accessories.
5) Right click on the Command Prompt icon and select ‘Run as administrator.’

In the command prompt type the following:

CD C:\Program Files\Articulate\Presenter

6) Next type:

regsvr32.exe artspconv.dll

7) You should receive a message saying "DllRegisterServer in artspconv.dll succeeded.
8) Click OK.
9) Next type:

regsvr32.exe apmsghrr.dll
9) Exit the Command Prompt.
10) Restart PowerPoint and Engage and try to duplicate your issue.

In Windows XP or earlier, please do the following:

1) Quit PowerPoint.
2) Run each of the following commands separately (using Start -> Run):

regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Articulate\Presenter\artspconv.dll"

regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Articulate\Presenter\apmsghrr.dll"

3) Restart PowerPoint.
4) Try and duplicate your issue.

Tried all above solutions, but still unsolved.
When I tried the regsvr32,exe, the feedback is:

---------------------------
RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllRegisterServer in apmsghrr.dll failed
Code: 0x80004005
---------------------------

Did you install any software recently prior to this issue occurring? Did you run any registry cleaning software or something else that may have impacted your computer? When was the last time you were able to use Presenter? Is this a company computer or a home computer? Do you have administrator rights on this computer?

The error code is a pretty generic error that indicates a permissions issue which is why you may be unable to register the dll.

What you may want to try doing is uninstalling the software and then run the installer as an administrator. You can do this by right clicking the installer and select

WinXP:
Run as...
"The following user:"
Administrator

Vista
Run as administrator

Are you using Vista or XP btw?
