Default Engage/Flash problem

Hi folks,

Was wondering if anyone is experiencing a problem with Engage and Flash.
I've been using Engage since it was released and today it won't launch for me.

It keeps indicating that I need to install Flash 6 or higher and wants to redirect me to Adobe (see picture). If I say not it closes Engage. I've already restarted my machine to see if that would fix this.

I've installed Flash 10 (and used the Flash 10 Updater to fix the problems that made) but can't seem to get past this. I want to avoid re-installing Engage so I wanted to check if anyone has suggestions for this.

My OS is XP Professional w/service pack 2.

Thanks,

Jon

Hey Jon -

Go into my post a few down about cordbg.exe and Flash, and the moderator pointed me to an .exe download file that solved this problem on my machine. See if it works for you.

Cheers,
Kimberly

Thanks Kimberly,

I tried the exe Justing directed to you. Unfortunately it didn't work.
If you have any other suggestions let me know.

For Justin:

Should I reinstall Engage before I submit a support email?

There is an issue we are working on where Flash Player 10 causes Engage 1 to not work. You can fix this by downgrading to Flash Player 9 for now:

First, close PowerPoint and uninstall your current version of the Flash Player. Follow the steps here:

Next, install Flash Player 9 for Internet Explorer. Even if IE is not your primary browser, you need to install this version in order to use Flash in Windows applications, such as Articulate Presenter.

You can download Flash Player 9 for IE here:

Thanks Justin,that did the trick.

Hopefully you'll get this fixed quickly as we have no imidiate plans to update to the '09 versions yet (money is a little tight these days...).

Gabe this is going to take a little while to solve, Gabe may want to make a broader annoucement similar to the Presenter/Flash 10 blog post.

First, the rhetorical question accompanied by wailing and gnashing of teeth:
Why did I click YES on Adobe's "Wanna update?" popup?
Doomed, doomed, doomed I tell you!
--insert sound from file C:\My Downloads\maniacal_laughter.mp3--

Now returning to rational... we have re-entry

My experience is similar to Jon's except I have not been able to overcome the Flash 10 update. Each time I attempt to open Engage (using direct open or open thru PPT-embedded interaction button) it "keeps indicating that I need to install Flash 6 or higher and wants to redirect me to Adobe." Selecting NO closes Engage. Here is the sequence of troubleshooting over the course of an evening:

1. Restarted my PC & opened Engage -- need to install Flash 6 or higher popup --
2. Came to the Forum to see if there was an answer
3. Downloaded and installed the Flash 10 Updater
3a. Ran the Flash 10 Updater against hundreds of Articulate product files
4. Restarted my PC & opened Engage -- need to install Flash 6 or higher popup --
5. Returned to forum, found the link for Flash Player 9 retrograde
6. Uninstalled Flash Player 10 and the Flash Player 10 Updater
7. Downloaded and installed Flash Player 9
8. Restarted my PC & opened Engage -- need to install Flash 6 or higher popup --
9. Checked Presenter forum and found my worst case scenario...it's not just Engage affected.
10. Threw my hands in the air,
11. Ran in circles
12. Ranted loud, unintelligible verbiage
12a. Rinse and repeat 12-step troubleshooting program.

Rational has left the building.

My OS is XP Professional w/service pack 2.

Thanks,

Hello, Jack. Sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue. Can you please do the following:

1. Quit Engage.
2. Download the Flash 10 Updater.
3. Run the updater on your local drive.
4. After updating all of your files, restart Engage.

Justin,

So far, my issues are on my home computer (I am at my day job, now). I probably won't be able to compute this evening but will definitely give it my attention at oh-dark-thirty tomorrow morning before work.

Thanks,

Justin,

I squeezed in a few minutes of troubleshooting, used your formula and now have full, rich Engage interactions working as they should. Obviously, you are a genius.

Thanks,

So I'm now having more Engage problems....

I don't know if this is related to Justin's fix to get Engage running again, but since that was the last fix I did regarding Engage I figured I post this here.

Engage is starting properly, creating and saving project properly.
This problem came up when I tried to publish my interaction directly into a Power Point presentation. See the "Engage Error message.jpg" below.

I checker my version of Presenter (Presenter version.jpg).

Has anyone seen, experienced this? Is this side effect of some of the flash/version upgrade issues going around?

I need to get this fixed as a project deadline is steadily approaching...

Any suggestions are appreciated.
